$100,000+ in the U.S.? Why Foreign Patients Come to Korea for Dental Implants

🦷 Dr. Donghwan Hong, Standard Dental Clinic

More and more international patients are coming to Korea for dental implant treatment. In fact, I have treated patients who came to Korea after receiving extremely expensive treatment estimates in the United States.

One patient recently came to us after receiving an estimate of around 150 million Korean won, or roughly $100,000, in the U.S. At our clinic, the estimate was around 20 million Korean won, or roughly $14,000, even with our most advanced treatment options.

Of course, 20 million won is still a significant amount of money. But depending on the treatment plan and materials used, many patients can receive treatment in the mid-teens of millions of won.

So why do international patients travel all the way to Korea for dental implants?

One reason is the highly competitive dental market in Korea. Korean dentists, dental technicians, and hygienists have developed their skills in an environment where they have to constantly learn new techniques and provide better treatment to remain competitive.

Because of this, if you choose the right clinic and the right dentist, you may actually achieve results that are comparable to, or even better than, treatment from a well-known specialist in the U.S.

However, if you are coming from another country, treatment scheduling is extremely important. Depending on your condition, some implant treatments can be planned around one to two weeks per visit, with two or three visits when necessary.

But not every patient can finish treatment within a short period of time. Bone grafting, root canal treatment, crowns, and other procedures may require additional time.

That is why I always recommend contacting the clinic before booking your flight. You should discuss your treatment plan, the number of visits you may need, and how much time you should stay in Korea.

If you already have a dentist in your home country, cooperation between the two clinics can also be possible. For example, you may have surgery in Korea and receive follow-up care, such as suture removal or regular checkups, from your local dentist.

Ultimately, choosing a dental clinic overseas is not simply about finding the cheapest price. You should look for a clinic that communicates well online, provides a clear treatment plan, allows you to communicate directly with the dentist when necessary, and can coordinate follow-up care after you return home.

Especially when it comes to dental implants, Korea can be well worth the trip when you consider both treatment quality and cost.

But the most important thing is not simply choosing Korea. It is choosing the right dental clinic in Korea.
